Giurgia and the Greek vlachs
This site is dedicated to my village, Giurgia Aspropotamos, and its people, Vlachs - Aromanians.
Giurgia is located in Trikala - Thessaly - Greece, 50 km west of Elati village, on Mt Pindos and by the Aspropotamos (Acheloos) river. The area is still "virgin" and is considered as a natural monument with rich flora and fauna.
Vlachs - Aromanians are native habitants of Balkan peninsula and speak a neo-latin dialect, which is similar though not mutually intelligible to modern Romanian. Their history and their origin is still a question for the specialists. I believe that there is not a commonly accepted answer on that due to the fact that all parts use different historical issues in order to strengthen their opinion. However, there does exist a well-known fact: Greek-Vlachs feel Greek from the Byzantine times and nobody can persuade them feel in a different way.
